Teflon® coated mandrels speed small diameter parts output

Teflon® coated stainless steel or nitinol forming mandrels that increase the output of extruded small-diameter tubing and formed rubber bladders are available from Applied Plastics Co., Inc. of Norwood, Massachusetts.

APC Teflon® Coated Mandrels feature a release coating precisely applied in thicknesses from 0.00005” to 0.0008” onto stainless steel or nitinol wire from 0.005” to 0.045” dia., with ±0.0001” final dia. tolerances. Providing a smooth, slippery surface that is chemically inert and can withstand up to 500°F, these mandrels increase the output of extruded small-diameter tubing, formed rubber bladders, and similar parts.

Eliminating flaking and the surface irregularities associated with conven-tional PTFE-coated or sprayed mandrels, the firm grit-blasts the stainless steel or nitinol wire before coating to create a superior bonding surface. APC Teflon® Coated Mandrels exhibit a 0.05 coefficient of friction when tested in accordance with ASTM-1894.

APC Teflon® Coated Mandrels are priced from $1.19 per foot, depending upon material, size, tolerances and quantity; with delivery from stock. Literature and free stainless steel samples are available on request.

Superior medical devices require superior coatings.

Our proprietary PTFE Natural® coated mandrels offer unmatched benefits.

low-co-friction

Low Coefficient of Friction

PTFE Natural® coatings provide a coefficient of friction generally in the range of 0.05 to 0.20, depending on the load and sliding speed.

heat-resistance

HEAT-RESISTANCE

PTFE Natural® coatings can operate continuously at temperatures up to 550°F and can be used for intermittent service up to 600°F with adequate ventilation.

non-stick

Non-Stick

Non-Stick Very few solid substances will permanently adhere to a PTFE Natural® coating. While tacky materials may show some adhesion, almost all substances release easily.

chemical-resistance

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

Chemical environments usually do not affect a PTFE Natural® coating. Only molten alkali metals and highly reactive fluorinating agents are known to affect this coating.

robust-coating

ROBUST COATING

The proprietary PTFE Natural™ coating process enhances the substrate bonding surface to provide optimum lubricity without flaking or cracking.

non-wetting

NON-WETTING

Since PTFE Natural® finishes are both hydrophobic and oleophobic, cleanup is easier and more thorough.
